House arrest

Shane has declared that I am officially under house arrest this week. He told me on Sunday that he'd rather I not go anywhere (i.e. WalMart, Sam's Club, commissary) in hopes that the baby boy will hold out on coming until at least this weekend. I can't say I'm elated over it, but I understand that he'd rather I not go into labor when he's not around to help. Let me tell you, nothing would thrill me more than my water breaking in the cereal aisle at the commissary :-P

We've (er, I've) gotten some house stuff done done this week (laundry & vacuuming), though the bathrooms are screaming for some attention. The last thing I feel like doing at this point is scrubbing toilets. I'm wondering when that pre-labor burst of energy is going to hit! Today I was motivated and made a changing pad cover for Emily's room. It was kind of hard to look at lime green fabric, but it looked okay in her room once it was finished. I also altered one of Shane's surgery caps so he could close it using Velcro instead of the traditional ties. I was surprised that it looked okay after I got finished with it.

Today we got a little break from being here at the house just Emily & me. Anneka and Dawson (2 1/2 years old) came over for a little while to play and eat lunch. They were a welcomed site! Tomorrow we're planning on going to see Kate and Christa (18 mos) for a little bit. Emily is getting a little better around kids her own age, but still tends to get possessive over toys and sometimes bullies by pushing. We're working on it. I'm sure just being around other kids will help some. Having a little brother in the house soon is definitely going to be interesting!

Bedtime

After having a crazy day where Emily decided to whine half of it away, it finally came time for us to go night-nights. The nighttime routine can be a little drawn out, but she does fine most of the time-bottle, blanket, paci by her side, and music for her listening pleasure. If I forget to turn on the music, I'll sometimes hear a faint "mommy?" as I leave the room to which I respond, "Yes, Emmy". "Mugak" (yes, that's her word for music) is her usual request.

Tonight was a little different. After going in the room twice already to fix a leaky bottle and to rock with her as she wasn't quite sleepy, I started getting impatient and was ready for her to lay down and actually go to sleep. (Yes, on occasion I do enjoy doing my Bible study without background noise.) I laid her in the crib, covered her with the blankie, gave her a paci, and told her night-night as I pulled the door closed. As I was exiting I heard a sweet, "mommy?" Her music was on, so of course I had to ask her what she wanted. "Yes, baby?" I responded. "Kisses?" Aaaw....that was a hard one to pass on. What a pleasant request. So...yes, I went back in and gave her kisses...and two more times after that. Maybe I'm a sucker, but I thought "why not? She's probably not going to do that when she's twelve."
